On March 16 and 17, TSU hosted the International Scientific Conference "Slavic Languages in the context of modern Challenges." The event, organized jointly with the international historical journal Rusin, brought together leading linguists, philologists and historians to discuss a wide range of issues of modern Slavic studies. The participants discussed both fundamental issues (the genesis of the Russian literary language, the evolution of cultural concepts) and current issues, from machine translation and language functioning in a digital environment to unique cases of language contacts, including diasporic dialects and the speech of Old Believers who emigrated from South America. The scientists presented interdisciplinary reports at the intersection of linguistics, history and cultural studies, offering a comprehensive look at how Slavic languages reflect history and adapt to modernity.
