The Novoe Literaturnoe Obozreniye publishing house has published a book of correspondence between two prominent representatives of the Russian emigration of the first wave — the writer Mark Aldanov and the historian Mikhail Karpovich. The publication was prepared by Stanislav Pesterev, a graduate of our faculty in 2010.
While working in the Bakhmetevsky Archive (New York) in 2021, I realized that the found Aldanov letters would be enough for a full-fledged book? — says Stanislav Pesterev. — A long process followed: deciphering the manuscripts, commenting on them, and chronologizing them. Some of the materials were found in the collections of the Marina Tsvetaeva House Museum in Moscow - in particular, the end of the letter, which was previously considered unfinished, was found. I am grateful to the NLO publishing house, which accepted the manuscript and published the book.
I have been working with Mark Aldanov since my postgraduate studies, where I defended my dissertation under the strict guidance of Anna Sergeevna Swarovskaya. Anna Sergeevna passed away shortly after my defense, in July 2017. This book is dedicated to her blessed memory."
